Smallville Season 4 Review

Well I have just completed watching Season 4 of Smallville. This season in my opinion was one of the strongest I have watched so far, unlike season one in which most of the episodes were based on villain of the week and could be watched stand alone, much of what has gone on in prior episodes is integral to the viewing of season 4. There are more adult themes being portrayed as all the characters on the show get older and working towards finishing high school.

I think one of the key elements and a highlight of this season was the introduction of Lois Lane played by Erica Durance, who does a superb job of making Lois both feisty, witty and likable. At the start of the season with Lana dating others, Chloe thinks now is her chance with Clark and sees Lois as an obstacle. Lois and Clark have a love hate chemistry from the get go that is great and really adds a new dimension to the show. Prior seasons characters were either friends of Clark or foes, but Lois although falling into the friend category is not afraid to slag Clark and give him a hard time over things. Lois's introduction and being such a strong character somewhat over shadows Chloe's character as the feisty one on the show also a void was left when Pete left smallville that now seems to have been filled.

One of the most memorable guest star introductions was that of Alicia played by Sarah Carter, have appeared in one episode in season 3 and two in season 4, for a time she seemed the perfect match for Clark as she too had powers and Clark could be himself around her but sadly her character was killed. I guess that two love interests on the show for Clark would have been too much for the long term. Alicia did change one vital element, she showed Chloe, Clark in action displaying his super powers but Chloe has kept his secret and has hinted continuously, she can be trusted but she wants Clark to tell her about his powers and with Alica gone it was looking likely that Clark was going to bare his soul but so far this season it never happened perhaps in season 5.

Clark finally gets a dog, which seemed to be a small detail that was left out, but in the Movie young Clark had a dog so it was fitting. The season finally was again a good one, because of Cl arks failure to unite the stones meteors changed path and headed for smallville. A spaceship has crashed to earth, Lex knows Clark's is lying about the caves and Lana is hurt in the meteor shower with the story to be continued. It makes me want to turn on episode 1 of season 5 right this minute. My overall verdict of this season is that it was one of the best so far with some great story and character developments, roll on season 5.
